Sails of Gold uses a captain as the ordinary Wild. Ship Scatters appear only on reels one, three and five. Three ships start ten free spins, and three more during the feature add another ten.

The ship itself changes role during free spins, acting as a Wild to support line combinations. That transformation is the key difference from Jolly Roger 2's pirate Scatter and Eye of the Kraken's separate helmet and torpedo counters. Read the ship position and current mode before counting it as a substitute.
